This site was designed by Ryan Getek from a template using Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver. Bryce Mursch also contributed the knowledge of RSS that makes the continuously updated data possible.
The landmarks section (in the maps area) probably took me as long to design as the whole rest of the site because maps.google.com does not recognize many of the roads in Ocracoke. I got around this by downloading Google Earth and using it to get latitudes and longitudes for each location, then loaded them into an xml file, which is then parsed into the Google Maps API through Javascript. It was a pain to do, but it creates a pretty neat way to find out where stuff is and how to find out more about it. In case any visitors to this site are interested in adding a similar functionality to their own site, the Javascript is derived from code at: http://www.econym.demon.co.uk/googlemaps/
